Barney the purple dinosaur?!

It was an interesting sermon, on Numbers and i like the examples which Barney raised. He started it off with a tale. ha. which i like it so much, it helps to relate to my current job. it goes something like that...

John was a newly appointed CEO. His predecessor passed him 3 envelopes when he is on board, reminding him that only open it up during not so good times. So he kept it under the table.

First 6 mths was smooth sailing, just like a honey moon for any CEO. Sales are doing, people are well. Slowly, reality sink in and he ran unto his first crisis. at his wits end, he opened the 1st envelope. It says: Blame your predecessor, that's me!

John quickly called for a press conference and blamed the former CEO for the poor results. Ha. As usual, the press exagerate and ya, he got away from it!

Sales start ramping up... all is well again. it's a vicious cycle, things got bad again.

Time to open the 2nd envelope. BINGO!! It says: Re-organization. That's the way to go!

John took the advice and ya, re-org... time to trim the fat!

life is like a box of chocolate. You never know what you will get. BUT it is always predictable that business will hit the rock one day.

Gosh, it's time for third envelop again!

It says: Prepare 3 envelopes and give it to your successor!

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

The tale resonates with me, it links to Carly and Mark and my beloved company. hehe...

Barney mentioned that like all other US MNC, we always want better, year on year profit. Thus, be careful when you exceed your expectations! the upcoming year may not be easy :)

How come it sounds so familiar? haha...

He is Barney L, the former Microsoft MD and not the Barney, the purple dinosaur!
